LAAW Unveils New Resources for LGBTQ Workers and Introduces Skadden Fellow Jared Odessky一月 22, 2021
LAAW is excited to share our updated resources for LGBTQ workers in California, and to introduce Jared Odessky, who will provide expanded legal services for LGBTQ workers.
Our new fact sheet on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination and Harassment provides up-to-date information about workers’ legal rights under federal and state anti-discrimination law. Among other revisions, the fact sheet now reflects the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, which affirmed that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects workers of most employers against discrimination because of LGBTQ identity. Just this week, President Biden signed a sweeping executive order instructing all federal agencies to implement the Bostock decision, extending its reach to health care, education, family and medical leave, federal grants, and many other areas of the law.
We are also introducing a new online intake form for LGBTQ workers who prefer to contact us online. The form allows you to tell us briefly about your situation so that we may assess whether we are able to help. To contact us by phone, please call 415-593-0135.
Finally, we are also pleased to introduce Jared Odessky, who is expanding our outreach and services for LGBTQ workers in the Central Valley and other underserved areas. His work in this area is made possible by the generous support of the Skadden Fellowship Foundation.
