LAS-ELC board gains three new members

Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center is honored to announce that three prominent lawyers have joined its board of directors. Their varied talents and background will be enormously helpful to LAS-ELC as we celebrate 100 years of providing free legal services to low-income people and their families across California this year and into the future.

Jacqueline Mottek, an experienced class action litigator, is director of client services at Epiq Systems, a firm providing electronic discovery, bankruptcy and class action administration services. She was previously counsel with Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd, a partner with Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, and an associate with Brobeck.

Nathan E. Shafroth, a partner with Covington & Burling in San Francisco, is a member of the firm’s IP litigation practice group, where he has litigated and tried numerous patent, copyright, and trade secret cases. Prior to joining Covington, Nate was an associate at Heller Ehrman.

Karen E. Silverman is managing partner of Latham & Watkins’s San Francisco office and antitrust partner there. She focuses on merger control and counseling issues on deals ranging from the very local to large global transactions.  She previously served in the U.S. Department of Justice.

Separately, Rick Beal, a board member for 25 years, longtime chair of LAS-ELC’s compensation committee, and a managing director with the talent management firm Willis Towers Watson, has agreed to continue as an adviser to the board. Departing from the board are Thad Davis of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher; Ella Folley Gannon of Moran Lewis & Bockius; Simon Frankel of Covington & Burling; and Sahag Majarian of the Law Offices of Sahag Majarian II.
