Lawyers, social justice community urge rejection of ‘dangerous’ Attorney General nominee

Scales of justice

Dozens of social justice lawyers and activists will gather at the San Francisco office of U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today to urge her and her colleagues to reject President Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) to be U.S. Attorney General.

The attorneys and staff of Legal Aid at Work invite other California residents and organizations to join them.

  • WHAT: Lawyers urging opposition to Sessions as U.S. Attorney General
  • WHEN: 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 27
  • WHERE: Sen. Feinstein’s office, 1 Post St., San Francisco (corner of Market St.)

Sessions has a well-documented history of opposing civil and workers’ rights. A bipartisan majority of the Senate Judiciary Committee actually rejected him for a judgeship in 1986 based on his record of supporting voter suppression, opposing civil rights enforcement, and making racially insensitive statements.

We believe Sessions is fundamentally unfit for this appointment because the heart of the Attorney General’s job is to ensure that federal laws are enforced equally and in accordance with the Constitution. His confirmation presents a danger to all Americans.
