USD School of Law announces new Workers’ Rights Clinic

Today, the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law announced that it launched the Workers’ Rights Clinic, a collaboration with the state-wide Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center. The new Clinic will expand access to free legal advice on employment-related issues for those most in need, low-income workers.

“We are honored that the Employment Law Center approached our law school as its partner in this new program for San Diego County. We believe our commitment to practice-based education, along with 45 years responding to the needs of the community in our client services Legal Clinics, makes us an ideal site for this new venture,” said Margaret A. Dalton, Associate Dean.

“Our law students have been requesting more employment law opportunities in this thriving practice area, including clinical opportunities,” she said. “We are excited to meet that need.”

Mike Gaitley, a senior staff attorney at the Employment Law Center’s San Francisco office, is the adjunct professor and supervising attorney for the clinic. He currently supervises five other such clinics throughout California.

“The University of San Diego School of Law is a perfect partner for our newest clinic location. Given such a large and diverse community of low-wage workers in the San Diego area, we are grateful that those workers will now have access to free, high-quality legal help through the law school’s vibrant clinical program,” said Gaitley.
