State Disability Insurance (SDI) provides 70-90% starting in 2025 (but the first week is unpaid) when they cannot work due to their pregnancy or recovery from childbirth. Apply through Employment Development Department (edd.ca.gov)

California Family Rights Act provides 12 weeks of unpaid leave to bond with a new baby for eligible workers, available to both parents.
During that time, eligible workers can receive 8 weeks of Paid Family Leave income through the Employment Development Department (edd.ca.gov).
No medical certification is required for Paid Family Leave for baby bonding. However, the worker will need to submit proof of birth or placement to the EDD.
